A Clear Pet Policy at the Door
Clear guidance, thoughtfully designed.
Every business has its own approach to welcoming pets. Some spaces welcome dogs on a leash, others allow smaller pets in a carrier, while certain businesses choose not to permit pets at all.
Whatever the policy, making it clear at the entrance helps guests understand what is expected before they step inside.
Traditionally, this means placing a no pets sticker or a no dogs allowed sign on the door. These signs are practical, but their bold colours and warning-style designs do not always complement a carefully considered entrance.
An alternative to the traditional no pets sign
A no pets sign has a simple purpose: to communicate that pets are not permitted. But clear information does not necessarily need to dominate the entrance.
For hotels, restaurants, boutiques, salons, offices and studios, the entrance is part of the overall experience. Materials, signage and even the smallest details contribute to the first impression of the space inside.
Instead of a traditional red and white dogs not allowed sign, a smaller and more understated pet policy sign can communicate exactly the same message while becoming part of the entrance itself.
No pets, pets on leash or pets in a carrier?
Of course, a pet policy does not always mean that dogs or other animals are prohibited.
A pet friendly business may welcome dogs as long as they remain on a leash. Another location may prefer pets to stay safely inside a carrier. In these situations, a pets on leash sign or pets in carrier sign provides guests with clear guidance without making the entrance feel unwelcoming.
Pet Policy offers three different policies for this reason: No Pets, Pets on Leash and Pets in Carrier. Each communicates a different approach while keeping the visual language consistent.
Where should a pet policy sign be placed?
The most natural place for a pet policy sign is at the entrance, where it can be seen before a guest walks inside. On a glass door, for example, the policy becomes visible at exactly the moment it is needed.
Size matters here. A large no dogs allowed sticker immediately draws attention to itself. A smaller sign can still be noticed while allowing the architecture, materials and character of the entrance to remain the focus.
At 60 mm, Pet Policy signs are designed with that balance in mind. The matte silver and matte gold finishes offer clear guidance without introducing the visual language of a traditional warning sign.
Clear without feeling unwelcoming
Whether the message is no pets allowed, dogs on leash or pets in carriers, a policy should ultimately make things easier for both the business and its guests.
When that information is communicated clearly at the door, there is less uncertainty and no need for guests to ask once they are inside.
And when the sign itself is thoughtfully designed, practical information can become another considered detail of the space.
Because clear guidance can be subtle, too.
